Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving to Miss Remainder of Season
Mavericks fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Kyrie Irving back on the court. The Dallas point guard has been ruled out for the rest of the 2025-26 season as he continues his recovery from a torn ACL, as announced by the team on Wednesday morning.
Irving suffered the injury to his left foot in March 2025 and had surgery shortly thereafter. Initially, he was hopeful about returning this season, but it seems that his recovery will take more time.
In a statement, Irving expressed that taking the extra months for healing was the best decision for him. “This decision was not easy, but it was the right one,” he commented. He thanked his teammates, the Mavericks organization, and the fans for their unwavering support, expressing eagerness to return even stronger next season.
He also shared a message of encouragement, saying, “The faith and drive within me has only grown stronger. I wanted to send a big shout out to all my brothers and sisters who have torn their ACL or been injured and still do what they love every day. Thank you for the inspiration. Never be afraid!”
Irving was traded to the Mavericks from Brooklyn before the 2022-23 season and played a key role in leading the team to the NBA Finals alongside Luka Doncic in the subsequent season. Despite participating in the All-Star season in 2024-25, he faced a setback, missing the end of that season due to his knee injury.
Currently, the Mavericks are not in a position to rush Irving’s return. They are struggling in the standings, sitting near the bottom of the Western Conference with just 19 wins and 35 losses, while Irving is under a three-year, $119 million contract.
