Actor Tom Noonan has passed away peacefully on Valentine’s Day at the age of 74.

The news was shared by his co-star Karen Sillas on Wednesday, although she did not provide specifics about his passing. Known for his role as the “perfect bad guy,” Noonan captivated audiences as Cain in “RoboCop” and Francis Dollarhyde in “Manhunter.”

In a heartfelt statement, Sillas reflected on their collaboration in the off-Broadway play “What Happened Was…” at the Paradise Factory Theatre in the early 1990s, calling it a pivotal moment in her career. “I had no idea when we turned it into a film a year later, we would create one of the iconic indie films of the 1990s,” she remarked.

“What a privilege and fun experience it was working with him, and I’m grateful to have called him my friend until the end… may his legacy continue to shine bright,” she added.

Noonan’s career in entertainment spanned decades and kicked off in 1980 with various minor roles. His breakthrough came in 1986 with “Manhunter,” quickly followed by his portrayal of Frankenstein’s Monster in “The Monster Squad.”

He also featured in “RoboCop 2,” which debuted at number one at the box office in 1987, ultimately becoming one of that year’s successful films, grossing $53.4 million against a $13 million budget. Two sequels followed, proving the franchise’s popularity.

Noonan’s extensive resume includes notable films like “The House of the Devil,” “Heat,” and “Last Action Hero.” He made appearances on popular shows such as “The X-Files” and “CSI.”

Director Fred Dekker, who cast Noonan in “The Monster Squad,” shared his condolences on Facebook, highlighting Noonan’s impactful performance as a defining moment in his own directing career. “Tom was the quintessential gentleman and scholar, and his talent will be sorely missed,” Dekker stated.
