'The View' co-hosts concur that AOC made awkward mistakes at the Munich Security Conference

On “The View,” several co-hosts critiqued New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for what they deemed an awkward moment during her appearance at the Munich Security Conference in Germany.

Ocasio-Cortez, a prominent figure in the Democratic Party and often mentioned in discussions about the 2028 presidential election, expressed her discomfort regarding some of her comments from the event. This included confusion about Venezuela’s geopolitical stance and a lengthy pause before recommending that the U.S. should try to avoid confrontation with China over Taiwan.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg presented a clip of Ocasio-Cortez’s hesitant response, observing that “the right is catching her coming off a bit cautious.”

The show aired conservative backlash against her statement, featuring her struggles to specify the number of U.S. troops necessary for Taiwan’s defense against China, followed by a comparison montage with President Donald Trump’s gaffes.

Joy Behar attempted to offer a mixed defense for Ocasio-Cortez, commenting, “It sounded a bit like ‘homina homina homina,’ but really, in comparison to Trump, she seems like MENSA!”

Guest host Savannah Chrisley remarked, “Mispronouncing a word is not the same as not knowing where Taiwan is,” adding that resilience is key in such situations, which Ocasio-Cortez seemed to lack in her response.

Sunny Hostin praised Ocasio-Cortez’s general message on the global stage, particularly against rising authoritarianism, though she too had her own moment of hesitation while trying to pronounce “authoritarianism,” prompting laughter among her peers.

Sarah Haines offered a critical perspective on Ocasio-Cortez’s performance, saying, “No one is expected to have all the right answers regarding geopolitics, but given that the Ukraine-Russia conflict has been ongoing for four years, this is a timely topic at work and even with friends.” She noted that this moment was not particularly flattering for Ocasio-Cortez but hinted that critics would likely have found fault regardless of her response.

Goldberg summed up the conversation with a personal touch, saying, “No one is flawless; everyone stumbles at times.” Behar referenced another gaffe related to geographic confusion, to which Chrisley pointed out that Ocasio-Cortez also incorrectly placed Venezuela near the equator. Hostin agreed, confirming it was indeed another slip.

Goldberg concurred, noting, “That’s the essential aspect. They aren’t perfect. It’s frustrating because they often project an image of perfection when they’re far from it.”
