Why Brian Daboll decided on the Titans despite other options

Brian Daboll Takes Over as Titans’ Offensive Coordinator

Brian Daboll garnered interest from various teams in the NFL during the recent coaching changes but ultimately chose the Titans to be their offensive coordinator. He shared his thoughts on this decision during a press conference on Wednesday.

“I felt like it was the right person and the right combination,” Daboll mentioned regarding his move to Tennessee. He reflected on his connection with Robert Saleh from their time in New York and praised Mike’s vision for the team’s future. He also expressed confidence in Cam Ward, emphasizing that these factors played a significant role in his choice.

Daboll’s previous stint ended with his dismissal from the Giants in November. Before settling with the Titans, he interviewed twice for the Raiders’ head coaching position and even turned attention towards Seahawks offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak.

There are whispers of interest from both the Bills for a head coaching role and the Eagles seeking an offensive coordinator, but for now, Daboll is focused on his new role.

In his new position, Daboll will team up with Saleh, who is getting another chance after being let go by the Jets following a challenging record. Their paths crossed for parts of three seasons in New York, which Daboll acknowledged during the press conference.

After he took over for the Giants, Daboll successfully led them to the playoffs and even won a Wild Card game in 2022. However, following disappointing seasons, including a 6-11 record in 2023 and 3-14 in 2024, he was let go after a rough start this past season.

Now, both coaches are set to begin a fresh chapter together in Nashville.

“I’m very happy to be where I am and to be a part of this football team as offensive coordinator,” Daboll stated. “This is where I want to be, and with this young core, I’m looking forward to working with Robert to do my best as the offensive coordinator.”

“I think the most important thing is what’s under your feet. It’s here in Tennessee. It’s a titan up, as they say. I’m excited to be here and looking forward to what’s ahead.”
