Potential Major Snowstorm Forming for Many People Along Interstate 95 Route

Nor’easter and Snowstorm Watch for I-95 Region

There’s a potential nor’easter and significant snowstorm that could affect millions of people along the I-95 corridor from Sunday night into Monday. It’s being watched closely.

Over the weekend, areas like New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia might see some snow. The timing and exact amounts, though, are still kind of up in the air.

A storm system is moving east after heavy rain and snow hit the region this past week, bringing further rain issues to the Northeast as the week wraps up.

The main focus for forecasters is a third system that’s expected to come in from the coast of British Columbia, crossing across the lower 48 states from Thursday night into Friday. Once it arrives on the East Coast, it’s anticipated to form a surface low before moving out to sea, which could turn into a significant coastal storm with heavy snowfall for parts of the Northeast.

Nonetheless, the forecast remains uncertain as millions gear up for potentially more storms in what’s shaping up to be one of the busiest winters in recent memory.

In some Northeastern cities, there’s still snow lingering from the historic January storm named Fern.

With plenty of time left before the weekend, models predict snow along much of I-95, although details could change. It seems like there are varying approaches in different forecasts regarding how severe this winter weather might be.

The unpredictability of the system stems from how rapidly it can gather strength as it heads toward the Great Lakes and exactly where it will form offshore from the East Coast.

Multiple factors need to align to create a significant event, mainly accurate movement along the Northeast coast and a good influx of cold air from Canada. If either one doesn’t happen, the snowfall could be minimal.

According to the FOX Prediction Center, snow is the most likely scenario, but they’re considering all outcomes—from a near miss with all precipitation spilling out to sea to a robust nor’easter effect.

A much clearer forecast should take shape as the weekend gets closer. Keep an eye out for updates to track this potential blockbuster snowstorm.
