303 Virginia students face suspension for joining anti-ICE walkout

Student-Led Walkout in Virginia Results in Suspensions

In Virginia, over 300 students have faced suspensions following a student-led anti-ICE walkout that escalated into a significant off-campus protest Friday morning. As of Thursday afternoon, Prince William County Public Schools reported that 303 students were suspended due to the incident.

During this walkout at Woodbridge High School, Principal Heather Abney noted that students aimed to “voice their opinions on issues that are important to them.” Though she recognized the walkout as a form of self-expression, she also clarified that students had left the school premises rather than remaining on the playground.

Authorities from Prince William County Police were called in to manage traffic and oversee the situation. In communication to the families, Abney emphasized the district’s commitment to student safety while underscoring expectations for conduct during school hours.

After the suspension news broke, students created an Instagram account, reportedly in support of another planned walkout. The account, which is named after the initiative, urged participation in a county-wide strike slated for February 20. Organizers expressed gratitude for the chance to assert their constitutional rights and provided detailed instructions about the upcoming demonstration, emphasizing that each school may have its unique procedures.

They encouraged students to bring signs and flags for future protests while cautioning against any aggressive behavior. In a message to followers, they advocated for peaceful protests, underlining that such actions are more impactful as they help convey collective voices without escalating conflicts.
