Hilary Knight's amusing response to discovering she set a record for the USA Olympics

Hilary Knight’s Historic Moment in Women’s Hockey

On Thursday, Hilary Knight stepped up big time for the U.S. women’s hockey team, keeping their hopes alive.

In the process, she made history—though, honestly, she was unaware at that moment.

When she scored, it was, um, hard to believe. It was just over three minutes left in the third period, and the U.S. was down by one. Knight managed to redirect a shot from Laila Edwards, sneaking the puck past Canadian goalie Anne-Renee Desbiens, who had been unbeatable up until then.

That goal pushed the game into overtime. Then, Megan Keller secured the win with a brilliant goal, clinching the gold for the Americans in a nail-biting 2-1 finish.

But Knight’s goal meant more than just a tie; it was significant. With that score, she achieved a total of 15 career goals and 33 points in the Olympics, setting new U.S. records.

Right after the game, Knight spoke with NBC’s Kathryn Tappen, where she reflected on these new records, visibly amazed.

“No way!” she exclaimed, her surprise evident. “I’m just happy to win the gold medal. Oh my god, it feels great.”

This week was also notable for Knight personally; she got engaged to American speed skater Brittany Bowe just days prior to the gold medal game.

With two gold medals and three silver medals under her belt, Knight is positioned to be remembered as one of the greatest female hockey forwards in American history.

2026 Winter Olympics

At 36, Knight had previously indicated this would be her final Winter Olympics. When asked about it, she took a moment to relish her experience.

“I said this was my last game, but it’s been a very long week for me personally,” she mentioned. “It’s been an incredible journey. You have to soak it all up because this room is so special and this team is so special. This is the best U.S. hockey team I’ve ever been a part of.”
