Robert Dorgan, known as “Roberta,” fatally shot his ex-wife during a high school hockey game on Monday. It has been reported that the woman, Rhonda Dorgan, was also his cousin.
According to local news, Rhonda shared the same last name until their marriage in 1992, which raises questions about their family connections. After their separation, they became cousins again.
A closer look at the 1950 U.S. Census reveals that the Dorgan family included Edward F. Dorgan, 57, and his wife, Eva C. Dorgan, 47, residing on Farnham Pike in Smithfield. Their two sons listed were Raymond C. Dorgan, who was 22, and Robert J. Dorgan, who was 7 at that time. Robert J. Dorgan is the father of the shooter, Robert Kevin Dorgan.
Raymond C. Dorgan’s father, Gerald, and his wife, Linda, are reported to be in critical condition following the incident. Their daughter, Rhonda Lee Dorgan, had been married to Robert but is now divorced from him.
To put it simply, Edward F. Dorgan is both the grandfather of the shooter and the great-grandfather of Rhonda Lee Dorgan. In another perspective, Rhonda’s grandfather is actually the shooter’s uncle.
Reports note that Robert Dorgan warned he would go “viral” the day before he commenced the attack. Alongside killing his ex-wife, he also took the life of his 23-year-old son, Aidan.
