Fan fest for the 2026 World Cup at Liberty State Park in New Jersey has been called off.

A significant World Cup fan fest that was set to take place at Liberty State Park in Jersey City has been abruptly called off.

The event was planned for June 11 to July 19, but New Jersey officials announced the cancellation, opting instead to direct $5 million towards community initiatives for soccer fans throughout the state.

A spokesperson for the New York New Jersey Host Committee stated that they are collaborating with various leaders, including Governor Mikie Sherrill, to create more fan engagement opportunities statewide. “This approach is aimed at directly bringing World Cup experiences to all 21 counties, making it easier for people to access and participate,” they mentioned.

The cancellation decision was made just months before the World Cup, especially after fans began purchasing $10 tickets to attend.

Those who bought tickets will receive refunds, according to reports.

The Fan Festival was initially unveiled last summer during a press conference featuring representatives from key professional sports teams in the New York/New Jersey area, the NYNJ Host Committee, and former New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.

A new initiative announced on Thursday is a collaboration between the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and the host committee that aims to enhance the fan experience in local communities “while supporting small businesses and cultural organizations.”

Governor Sherrill remarked, “New Jersey is at the center of the 2026 World Cup, and this initiative is designed to involve all residents in this significant event.”

The announcement did not elaborate on the reasons behind the cancellation of the fan fest at Liberty State Park.
