FCC Launches Campaign for America’s 250th Anniversary

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has initiated a new campaign encouraging broadcasters across the United States to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary.

In a press release shared by the FCC, Chairman Brendan Carr unveiled the Pledge America campaign, timed with President Donald Trump’s Task Force 250. This initiative aims to honor this significant national milestone.

The FCC stated, “In line with their long-standing obligations, America’s broadcast stations play a crucial role in educating, informing, and entertaining audiences nationwide. They are particularly equipped to provide programming that meets the interests and needs of their communities.”

Carr called upon broadcasters to commit to offering programming that fosters civic education, national pride, and highlights shared history. He emphasized the importance of addressing current societal concerns by showcasing the inspiring narrative of American independence.

  • Create public service announcements or specials focused on civic education and American history.
  • Feature segments during news broadcasts that spotlight historical local sites.
  • Begin each broadcast day with “The Star-Spangled Banner” or the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • Play music from renowned American composers such as John Philip Sousa and George Gershwin.
  • Provide daily updates on significant historical events pertinent to that day.
  • Collaborate with community organizations that promote stories of American unity and perseverance.

While participation in the Pledge America campaign is voluntary, Carr expressed hope that broadcasters will use this opportunity to reflect America’s rich history and fulfill their public service commitments to their communities.
