Ohio Mayor Faces Voyeurism Charges
The mayor of a small town in Ohio is in hot water, facing voyeurism charges following some unsettling incidents involving a teenager. Reports indicate that Wesley Dingus, the mayor of Butler, Ohio, was caught in the act of installing a hidden camera and then behaving inappropriately with the girl’s personal items.
According to the police, Dingus was arrested last month after a relative, who was looking after the girl, secretly recorded footage that revealed him sniffing her dirty underwear and engaging in other troubling behavior. I mean, it’s one of those things that really raises eyebrows, right? The girl, realizing something was off, had suspected the 48-year-old mayor might have tried to break into her bedroom, prompting her to conceal the camera in the first place.
The incident unfolded quickly. The girl left her home around 7 a.m. on January 13, and within just 15 minutes, she got an alert that motion had been detected in her room. When she checked the footage, she was horrified to see Dingus enter her room and disturb her belongings.
The next day brought another alarming alert, revealing that Dingus had returned to her room, again violating her privacy. This pattern is just disturbing. After the police received the footage, they moved quickly, visiting the girl at her high school to take her statement.
Dingus, who has been serving as mayor in this quaint town of under a thousand residents since 2022, was out on bail for a separate felony charge when these charges came to light. After much hesitation—he reportedly took several days to speak with investigators—he was arrested on February 13 and charged with two counts of voyeurism.
In a court appearance on Thursday, Dingus posted 10% of his $10,000 bail and was released. A judge has mandated that he wears a GPS ankle monitor and has barred him from contacting the girl involved, although it remains unclear what their relationship was prior to these events.
Interestingly, this isn’t Dingus’s first run-in with the law. Back in July 2025, he was involved in a different incident where he ran over a man with his car to prevent him from escaping police. He has denied any wrongdoing in that case, and thankfully, reports indicated the people injured were expected to recover.
As this situation unfolds, many are left wondering, how could someone in a position of authority resort to such actions? It’s disturbing, to say the least.
