Surprisingly, a recent ABC News poll indicated that even with its left-leaning reputation, it couldn’t mask the fact that 50% of respondents support deporting all illegal immigrants.
Interestingly, the wording of the poll included the term “undocumented,” which may not resonate with everyone.
When asked whether they support deporting all illegal immigrants, half of the participants responded affirmatively, while 48% opposed this idea.
Another question addressed the potential elimination of ICE, with only 37% in favor and 50% standing against it.
In terms of trust regarding immigration issues, Trump led over Democrats, securing 38% to their 34%.
This outcome is quite unexpected since major media outlets have invested significant resources into campaigns aimed at criticizing ICE and its deportation policies.
It’s worth noting that this survey’s participants were adults. The polling agency mentioned that they randomly sampled 2,589 U.S. adults through interviews in English and Spanish.
Typically, when it comes to polling registered or likely voters, Republicans tend to perform better.
However, it’s essential to recognize that public sentiment isn’t always supportive; specifically, a majority of Americans disapprove of ICE’s enforcement tactics, with a disapproval rate of 62% compared to 31% approval.
On a broader scale, the poll results show that 40% of Americans approve of President Trump’s immigration policies, while 58% do not.
This suggests that many American citizens are leaning toward a harsher stance on immigration, yet they may be hesitant to delve into the potential consequences of such actions.
This statistic could be discouraging for those against ICE; if extensive media efforts in Minnesota haven’t reduced support for deportation below 50%, it’s hard to see what could.
With the situation in Minnesota now stabilizing, President Trump may find a chance to further advocate for mass deportation, citing various benefits—like reduced crime rates, lower housing costs, improved wages, and fewer issues related to drug trafficking and human trafficking.
The dialogue around these issues could shift significantly during the upcoming State of the Union address, where the president is anticipated to highlight the negative aspects of illegal immigration and the advantages of deporting individuals who are in the country unlawfully.
