FBI searching for suspect in ice rink attack linked to Trump-Kennedy Center vandalism

Investigation Underway after Vandalism at Trump Kennedy Center’s Ice Rink

Authorities have released surveillance footage and images of a suspect involved in vandalizing the outdoor ice rink at the Trump Kennedy Center. This incident, described by federal officials as a “targeted attack,” is now under investigation.

Richard Grenell, the center’s director, shared the footage online, urging the public to assist in identifying the suspect. He stated, “Help us find the terrorist suspect who attacked the Trump Kennedy Center.” He encouraged viewers to pay attention to the individual’s shoes and umbrella.

Incident Details

The U.S. Park Police are examining the video footage, as well as analyzing digital data from cell phone towers. Investigators are also reviewing nearby surveillance cameras, including recordings from a subway bus. The FBI has joined in to aid the investigation.

The Trump Kennedy Center has characterized the vandalism as a “calculated and malicious attack.” Following the damage, they announced the cancellation of a scheduled performance on the same night. Roman Daravi, the center’s Vice President of Communications, emphasized their commitment to completing repairs swiftly.

Nature of the Vandalism

Reports indicate that a dark brown substance was poured onto the ice, leaving behind a gallon-sized container, which officials have identified as “toxic.” However, the specific chemical remains unverified. The incident not only led to the performance’s cancellation but also raised serious concerns about safety.

Grenell, in a follow-up post, noted the distressing nature of the incident, remarking, “This is so sad and unnecessary.” He pointed fingers at perceived hostility from some individuals towards the center and the artists associated with it, suggesting a broader campaign against the establishment.

Next Steps

As of now, the identity of the suspect is still unknown, and authorities have not disclosed any potential motives behind the act. The Trump Kennedy Center has provided surveillance video for review by both Park Police and FBI.

Ambassador Grenell has urged anyone with information to reach out to the U.S. Park Police at 202-416-7900. The incident has drawn attention to the need for accountability in acts of violence and vandalism.
