Grown-ups are employing American Girl dolls for anti-ICE protests and misguided nurturing.

There’s an unusual trend taking over social media that seems, well, a bit odd. Host Allie Beth Stuckey expressed her dismay at this phenomenon.

She noted that some women are treating dolls as if they are actual babies, engaging in activities like feeding them and changing their diapers. “I videotape my kids in strollers,” she mentioned—a bit bewildered by the scene.

Stuckey further highlighted an influencer who wakes up her “children,” who just happen to be dolls. “It’s really sad,” she reflected. “Perhaps we should find better hobbies.” But it doesn’t stop there.

She continued, pointing out that some adults are now using dolls as tools for political activism. This intertwines the realms of Disney enthusiasts, adult doll collectors, and left-wing advocates, which Stuckey refers to as “misguided parenting.”

Misparenting, as she explains, happens when those maternal instincts get misdirected, impacting how adults interact with children or even others around them. It’s a strange manifestation of misplaced priorities.

An Instagram user known as “backintimeag” has been photographing American Girl dolls in various locations, attaching political messages. In one instance, a doll named Kirsten is quoted as saying, “Kirsten would be happy if ICE kicked the crap out of Minnesota.” Stuckey retorted, “I think Kirsten would care less about ICE. She likely would have supported deportations.”

Another piece features a doll named Josephine, supposedly representing Mexico, with the bold statement, “ICE needs to kick that motherfucker out of my country.” Stuckey added, “But, really, ICE doesn’t exist in your country.” It’s baffling.

Another influencer known as “AGTV4LIFE” showcased a dressed-up doll at a protest. The doll held a sign reading “Resist Fascism.” Stuckey quipped, “What a creative use of time! Maybe get a job or start a hobby?”

She then remarked on the absurdity of having puppet ICE agents involved in this trend. “It’s just too much,” she said, urging reflection on the mental state of those engaged in such activities.

On one side, there’s this trend of adults reverting to childlike behaviors with dolls and such, which might not always feel wrong, but it seems concerning in excess. “It’s strange, and maybe not the worst thing—going to Disney as an adult has its charm,” she mentioned but still questioned the obsession.

Stuckey expressed concern that this prolongs adolescence, hindering individuals from maturing into healthy adults. But then there’s a deeper issue: “Children’s material is increasingly becoming more adult-like, too,” she noted. This leads to a confusion of ages and expectations.

In the mix of all this, she believes there’s a disturbing intersection of childhood and adulthood. It’s perplexing, really. “I don’t have a clear solution, but maybe seeking spiritual guidance could help,” she concluded.
