Trump Celebrates USA Hockey Gold Medal Win at 2026 Olympics

President Donald Trump shared his excitement on Sunday following the USA men’s ice hockey team’s thrilling overtime win against Canada, securing the gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Jack Hughes netted the decisive goal past Canadian goalie Jordan Binnington. This victory marked the first time Team USA clinched gold in ice hockey since the legendary Miracle on Ice team did so in 1980.

As celebrations took place in Milan, Italy, Trump took to Truth Social to express his enthusiasm. “Congratulations to our great USA ice hockey team. They won the gold medal. Wow!” he tweeted. He followed up with, “What a game!!! I won a lot!!!”

This win seemed to reignite some friendly rivalry vibes between the US and Canada, an effect that perhaps began last year during a tournament featuring both teams. The Americans didn’t take home the trophy then, but they changed that narrative this time.

Matt Boldy kicked off the scoring for Team USA in the first period, skillfully getting past two Canadian defenders to place a shot past Binnington. Cale Makar leveled the score in the second period. Yet, despite a powerful effort by Canada in the third period, neither side managed another goal, thanks in part to American goaltender Connor Hellebuyck’s impressive performance, where he turned away 40 shots.

Hughes sealed the deal early in overtime, leading the USA to a 2-1 victory.
