Treasury Secretary Criticizes Political Climate Following Mar-a-Lago Incident

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed strong disapproval on Sunday regarding what he referred to as the “toxicity” emanating from the political left, especially after the violent event at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

During an appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures,” Bessent stated, “Two would-be assassins are dead, one is in prison for life, and this poison is coming from the other side…” He emphasized the need for this normalization of violence to end, saying, “It has to stop.”

Bessent also criticized a campaign ad for Illinois Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Juliana Stratton, citing that it features individuals urging viewers to support her candidacy by calling out to Trump. He called the video “blasphemous” and insisted it should be removed.

“We don’t know if this person was the mastermind or was crazy or what, but they’re normalizing this…violence,” he remarked, highlighting concerns about the underlying messages promoted through such content.

Fox News Digital reached out to Stratton’s office for comments but received no immediate response.

These remarks came in light of an investigation into a shooting incident involving a young male suspect who was killed early on Sunday at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago mansion in Palm Beach, Florida.

Sheriff Rick Bradshaw confirmed that the suspect was identified as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin from North Carolina. At the time, President Trump was in Washington, D.C., and thankfully, no Secret Service agents or law enforcement were harmed.

Bessent expressed gratitude to Sean Curran and the Secret Service for their role in safeguarding the president and his family, noting that they are safe. He refrained from suggesting any changes to the president’s security measures at Mar-a-Lago, asserting that the security around President Trump remains “as strong as ever.”
