A sorrowful father in North Carolina confronted the suspect who allegedly killed his 16-year-old son inside a courthouse, where the suspect was released on bail.
Shaheem Snipe, aged 47, faced arrest on Thursday at Mecklenburg County Court in Charlotte after he reportedly lunged at 21-year-old Marion McKnight, accused of fatally shooting Snipe’s son, Jamariae Dixon, last spring, according to local reports.
In a disturbing video, Snipe can be seen rushing toward McKnight in the courthouse hallway, delivering several punches and kicks before officers intervened with a Taser.
Following the incident, McKnight was hospitalized.
Charged with misdemeanor assault causing serious bodily injury, Snipe was released later that same day after posting a $1,000 bail.
Dixon’s family expressed frustration over McKnight’s release on a $100,000 bail, believing it was unjust. After the confrontation, Dixon’s aunt, Susan Sherrill, remarked that emotions escalated when Snipe came across McKnight outside the courtroom.
“He did what a father should do,” Sherrill noted. “Any father would have reacted similarly. We’re still in pain over this loss. My nephew should still be with us; he was only 16.”
This turmoil traces back to the shooting incident that ended Dixon’s life last year.
Police reported that Dixon was shot during an altercation at Stroud Park Courthouse on May 23, 2025.
Authorities identified McKnight as a suspect, leading to his questioning and subsequent arrest on May 28, where he was charged with murder in connection to Dixon’s death. Despite these charges, he was granted bail in November 2025, and has since been residing at his mother’s home under electronic monitoring.
On Thursday, McKnight appeared in court again as prosecutors aimed to revoke his bail.
Dixon’s mother, Lynette Dixon, did not witness the altercation in court but later viewed the footage and shared that it brought her an unusual moment of relief.
“I smiled when I watched it,” she said. “It’s the first genuine smile I’ve had since my son passed away.”
