Robert De Niro Gets Emotional Discussing Trump
On a recent episode of “The Best People with Nicole Wallace,” actor Robert De Niro was visibly emotional while discussing President Donald Trump. During the segment, Wallace prompted De Niro to reflect on his tendency to lift others’ spirits amid difficult times. The actor didn’t hold back, expressing concern over what he perceives as Trump’s potential threat to the country.
De Niro emphasized the importance of unity, saying, “You have to lift people up. You have to bring people together, period. You can’t divide people.” He elaborated, stating that there seems to be a force intent on causing harm to the nation, possibly without understanding the implications of its actions. “So it’s up to us to protect this country,” he urged.
Wallace responded, acknowledging the emotional weight of the conversation, saying, “You didn’t mean to make me cry.” De Niro further called for persistent resistance against Trump, framing it as crucial for survival. “You better jump into the fire and run, because you can’t get out unless you run through the fire,” he advised.
Concluding the podcast, Wallace expressed her solidarity, remarking, “I’m happy to run next to you. Thank you. Thank you so much.”
Despite his history of portraying tough characters, De Niro stated back in March 2024 on “Real Time with Bill Maher” that he would refuse to play Trump in any role. He described Trump as “a mean, mean, hateful person” and asserted that he saw no redeemable qualities in him. De Niro also voiced concerns about the implications of Trump winning re-election, saying it could lead to severe consequences for individuals like himself.
“If he wins the election, he won’t be on the show anymore… That’s what happens in that kind of dictatorship,” he concluded, referencing Trump’s own words.
Bill Maher, the host, continues to navigate his show amid ongoing critiques of Trump, which has led to significant reactions from the president himself.
