Dallas Jenkins Confirms Filming for Final Season of “The Chosen”
Director Dallas Jenkins shared some exciting updates about upcoming projects during a recent event, announcing that filming for the final season of the popular series is set to start in just a few weeks.
This news was revealed at ChosenCon, a fan-oriented gathering held in Charlotte, North Carolina. Attendees had the chance to engage with the cast and crew, ask questions, and preview clips from new episodes.
“The Chosen” is a multi-season series that offers a look at the lives of Jesus and the people who followed him. Jenkins mentioned that the first six episodes of the sixth season will debut on Prime Video this fall. The season finale is planned for a theatrical release in spring 2027, and it will focus significantly on the crucifixion.
According to Jenkins, this upcoming season is the largest production yet, taking longer to film than any previous ones. He emphasized the extensive work on visual effects and translations, noting, “It was at least two or three times longer than any previous season.” He even shared that he was still working on visual effects just last week and that part of the season was shot in Italy.
“Even when the setting feels surreal, there’s always something contemporary in the background that needs to be captured,” he explained, highlighting the demanding nature of the visual effects work. “The whole season is super large.”
Season 7 is anticipated to commence filming in the next couple of months and will also center around the crucifixion. Jenkins seemed almost incredulous about moving on to this stage, admitting with a smile, “Can you believe it? I can’t believe it. I’m not ready yet. I’m still recovering from Season 6.”
In an interesting twist, he noted that the crucifixion scene will be depicted early in Season 7 before transitioning to the initial chapters of the Book of Acts. Jenkins also discussed the challenges involved in portraying significant events such as the Ascension, saying, “We’re like, ‘Okay, how do we figure out a way to do that?'”
Additionally, he provided updates on various other projects, including “The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls.” This new adventure reality show featuring Grylls and cast members is set to premiere on Prime Video this year. Furthermore, an eight-episode limited series titled “Joseph of Egypt” is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in the first half of 2027.
“It’s getting really beautiful,” Jenkins expressed about “Joseph of Egypt,” which explores key connections between the Old and New Testaments through the story of Joseph and his brothers. “This is the universe we are building,” he added.
After Season 7, Jenkins plans to take a break before diving into two new projects: “Book of Moses” and “Path of the Chosen,” which will center on the apostle Paul and the events in the Book of Acts. He hinted at more projects in the pipeline, stating, “I have some projects in development that I can’t talk about yet. I may or may not be working on them.”
This update on “The Chosen” certainly has fans buzzing with anticipation.
