Michelle Wie West Returns to Golf
Michelle Wie West is making her return to professional golf, and it’s exciting. The five-time LPGA Tour champion will join the newly formed WTGL after stepping away from competitive play in 2023.
The WTGL is set to debut in the winter of 2026-27. This indoor team league is associated with the LPGA and will take place at the SoFi Center in Florida, a venue also used for the men’s TGL created by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
“As someone involved with the Los Angeles Golf Club and a fan of TGL, I’m thrilled about the chance to compete again through WTGL, which offers a great platform for women’s golf,” said Wie West, who is now 36.
She added, “I really care about advancing the game. TGL has shown that fresh formats can attract a broader audience with innovation and creativity. I’m eager to contribute to this team-focused environment at SoFi Center, and it should be a lot of fun to challenge myself alongside my teammates against top players.”
Alongside Wie West, the current roster for WTGL includes several notable names: Gino Titikul from Thailand, Charlie Hull from England, Lydia Ko from New Zealand, and Brooke Henderson from Canada, among others.
The WTGL operates separately from TGL, and the formation of this new league was officially announced by LPGA and TMRW Sports last January.
Previously, Wie West discussed her decision to retire voluntarily, primarily due to a series of injuries. She mentioned, “It’s unique because being a professional athlete takes up almost all of your mental space. I admire other mothers, not just in sports, because we juggle so much. But I’m really enjoying this guilt-free time with my kids.”
Wie West, who won the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open, is married to Johnny West, the son of NBA legend Jerry West. They have a daughter, Makenna, who is 5, and a son, Jagger, who is just 1.
The venue for the Mizuho Americas Open in New Jersey is also managed by Wie West and is scheduled for early May.
