Chris Hemsworth’s Big Move

Actor Chris Hemsworth recently shared that relocating from Los Angeles back to Australia was, in his opinion, the best decision he’s ever made. The move was influenced in part by the shifting dynamics of the film industry, which hasn’t been as active in Los Angeles as it once was.

This revelation came during an engaging conversation on the “SmartLess” podcast, featuring hosts Jason Bateman and Will Arnett.

Hemsworth noted, “When you get home from work, you want to go on vacation, right? Coming home feels like a holiday to me.” He reflected on how, when his sons were born, life in Los Angeles felt increasingly unfulfilling. They were, after all, filming in various other locations, not in LA itself.

The actor mentioned that the decline of the film industry in Los Angeles is largely due to productions relocating to take advantage of more favorable tax incentives elsewhere.

At 42, Hemsworth emphasized that moving back to Australia was a game-changer for him. “If you’re living in LA, there’s the constant buzz of paparazzi and the trappings of that lifestyle,” he remarked. Plus, he expressed a longing for more space and privacy, criticizing the close quarters of city living.

“When you come home, you want to unwind,” he added. His family’s property in Australia, which includes a farm, horses, and even opportunities for surfing, certainly enhances that feeling of relaxation.

Reflecting on his childhood in Australia, Hemsworth said it had a profound impact on his desire to act. He describes being surrounded by nature—scrubland and rainforest—which inspired countless outdoor adventures and the need to play different characters. “I think there’s this innate curiosity about escaping to another world,” he explained.

In other news, the film industry has faced some turbulence, with figures like Steven Spielberg also moving out of California. This stems from wider discussions around taxes and state incentives impacting where movies are produced.

Former President Donald Trump even threatened to impose steep tariffs on films made outside of the U.S. as a way to support California’s film sector.
