De Niro Expresses Concerns Over Trump’s Presidency

On Monday, actor Robert De Niro became emotional as he spoke out against the Trump administration, emphasizing the need for resistance to preserve America’s future under President Trump.

During her podcast “The Best People,” host Nicole Wallace highlighted De Niro’s significant role in defining New York City’s character. After voicing concerns about the Trump administration’s relationship with law enforcement agencies, she inquired about his worries for the city during these turbulent times.

De Niro reflected on the potential for retaliatory actions against New Yorkers, mentioning the possible presence of ICE agents. “People have to resist, resist, resist, resist, resist. That’s the only way,” he urged. His message was clear: the situation is dire, and even if something were to happen to Trump, the underlying issues wouldn’t simply vanish. “That movement still exists, and that’s what’s scary about it. It has to be neutralized by the people,” he added.

Wallace recollected De Niro’s 1981 Academy Awards speech, where he spoke about uplifting those around him. When she asked why he prioritized this message, he, with visible tears, said, “I have to. You have to lift people up. You have to bring people together. You can’t divide people. That’s not how you win.”

He continued passionately, “Look at what we have. They’re trying to destroy this country, and we probably don’t even understand why. It’s up to us to protect our country.”

As the conversation drew to a close, Wallace acknowledged De Niro’s emotional state, asking about the future of the political landscape. De Niro responded with uncertainty, but reiterated the necessity for people to resist and to take bold actions to overcome challenges. “Sometimes, you know you better jump in headfirst because otherwise, you won’t make it out,” he remarked.

“I’m glad to fight alongside you,” Wallace replied, wrapping up the discussion.
