Jalen Brunson’s Olympic Aspirations and Upcoming Goals
Recently, during the NBA All-Star Game at the Intuit Dome, Jalen Brunson, the standout guard for the New York Knicks, represented Team Stripes. This team was one of two U.S. squads (the other being Team Stars), while the third team was Team World.
While Brunson relished the All-Star experience, his primary ambition lies in making the Team USA roster for the Olympics. Of course, winning an NBA championship with the Knicks is his immediate focus, but the Olympic dream remains a significant goal.
With the Summer Olympics set to return to Los Angeles in 2028, Brunson confirmed his intention to compete. “Absolutely,” he expressed, adding details about his partnership with BODYARMOR and its “Choose Better” initiative ahead of next month’s March Madness. “I don’t think there’s anything else to say. That’s definitely one of my goals.”
Brunson felt somewhat overlooked when he wasn’t selected for Team USA during the gold medal-winning Olympics in Paris in 2024. The discussion around that roster included whether other guards, like Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers, deserved a spot over him. Despite this, Brunson believed he had a strong season and deserved to be included.
“I thought I could fit in,” he reflected on his exclusion. “I’ve played a lot of roles throughout my career. I could have played other roles, but obviously that just wasn’t an option at the time. And you move on and find a way to get better.”
As one of the league’s top point guards, especially in clutch situations, Brunson’s leadership for “The Mecca” could earn him a spot on the Team USA again, especially in upcoming competitions.
Brunson’s drive to represent the U.S. transcends personal accolades. He values the opportunity to wear the Stars and Stripes alongside fellow athletes. Although he showcased his skills in events like the 2023 FIBA World Cup, he aspires for the Olympic stage. “I think it would be a great opportunity if presented,” he shared. “It’s an honor to represent your country. Not many get that chance, whether in sports or the military.”
Brunson is proud of his journey, averaging 27.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.1 assists this season, which secured him a third consecutive All-Star selection. His objective now is to lead the Knicks to the playoffs and push past the Eastern Conference Finals after last season’s loss.
In the midst of his NBA focus, Brunson is also enthusiastic about NCAA March Madness. BODYARMOR, in a notable return to college sports, has partnered with the NCAA as its official sports drink. This aligns with their “Choose Better” campaign, emphasizing health and performance—a message Brunson, a two-time NCAA champion with Villanova, resonates with.
On making better daily choices, he emphasized hydration as crucial for strength and overall well-being. “No matter what, I think your muscles will get stronger if you’re hydrated,” he noted, acknowledging the importance of nutrition in optimizing performance.
As BODYARMOR prepares for NCAA March Madness, they will be the sole hydration sponsor on-site, promoting their initiative further in partnership with athletes like LSU standout Fraujay Johnson.
