Emotional Appeal for Missing Mother
NBC host Savannah Guthrie made a heartfelt plea on Tuesday, expressing her belief that her mother may have “passed away” and be “dancing in heaven.” She encouraged anyone with information about her mother’s whereabouts to step forward and announced a new $1 million reward for help in the case.
Nancy Guthrie has been missing since she was abducted from her home in the early hours of February 1. As the search enters its 24th day, new leads have been scarce, and hope is dwindling.
Over the weekend, an important update arose—a report suggesting that the doorbell camera image of a masked man might have been taken on a different night. This raises the possibility that he might have approached the house several times. Arizona State 13 News noted, “The photo of the Nancy Guthrie kidnapping suspect seems to have been recorded on a different day than previously released images by the FBI.”
Two photos reviewed by NewsNation indicate Nancy Guthrie at her home on separate days, confirming this theory. It seems the suspect may have visited her residence prior to the kidnapping.
Yet, officials from the Pima County Sheriff’s Office tempered this development, stating, “We understand that early images show the suspect in various clothing setups, including with and without a backpack.” They further clarified, “There are no date or time stamps on these images, making any shifts in days purely speculative.”
While Savannah Guthrie acknowledged the grim possibility that her mother is no longer alive, she clings to a thread of hope.
“We know millions are praying, including people from various faiths and those without any religious convictions,” she said. “We feel those prayers and urge everyone to keep them coming. We still believe—believe in miracles, believe in hope, as my sister often expresses, in those embers of hope.”
She further reflected, “We know she could be missing, or she might already be with her loved ones, dancing in heaven. If that’s the case, we accept it, but we just need to know where she is.”
Guthrie shared the news of the $1 million reward for any information that could help locate her mother and added that the family would also be donating $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
“We recognize that many families face similar uncertainty,” she mentioned. “We hope the care shown towards our mother and family extends to all those in need of support and prayers, just as we’ve sought.”
