Singh’s License Controversy
Partap Singh, an Indian national who unlawfully entered the United States in 2022, has allegedly managed to secure a commercial driver’s license from the California Department of Motor Vehicles, overseen by Governor Gavin Newsom.
On June 20, 2024, Singh reportedly caused a serious multi-vehicle accident that injured several individuals, including a young girl named Dalila Coleman, who was just 5 years old at the time.
“Contrary to what we feared, she is now in first grade and learning to walk,” a statement about Dalila’s recovery noted.
During a recent State of the Union address, President Donald Trump recognized the difficulties Dalila has faced in her journey toward normalcy following the tragic event. He mentioned that efforts are underway to create legislation intended to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“Doctors initially believed that Dalila would struggle with basic functions and live a limited life,” the president explained.
Reports from the Department of Homeland Security indicate that Dalila suffered severe injuries, including a fractured femur and a skull fracture, leaving her in a coma for three weeks. She now requires ongoing treatment for diplegic cerebral palsy and global developmental delay.
“Yet against all odds, she’s thriving now in first grade, and tonight she is present with her father, Marcus, a truly remarkable individual,” the president added.
Dalila’s journey has become a source of inspiration, according to Trump, who described her as a “great inspiration.” In a heartwarming moment, her father lifted her up, and she smiled and waved at the president and guests in attendance.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem commented on the tragic incident, stating, “Dalilah Coleman’s life was irrevocably altered when an illegal alien behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler collided with her family. This catastrophe could have been averted.” She questioned how many more innocent lives must be put at risk before leadership takes more decisive action.
Trump expressed concerns about the lack of English proficiency among many illegal drivers, who may not even be able to comprehend basic road signs. He called on Congress to pass what he termed “Dalila’s Law,” aimed at barring the issuance of commercial driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants.
