New Comedy Series in the Works
Chelsea Handler is reportedly creating a comedy titled “Townhouse” for Hulu, focusing on a reality star whose relationship with her daughter has gone awry.
Interestingly, Page Six has revealed that the script is penned by Sonya Morgan, a past intern of the “Real Housewives of New York City” star, who spent time at Morgan’s townhouse.
It seems there’s some ambiguity regarding how closely Morgan’s life mirrors that of the show’s character. A source indicated, “Sonya is hardly depressed. She’s definitely not estranged from her daughter. In fact, Sonja and Quincy have a really great relationship.”
Writer Zoe Young, who collaborated with Morgan during the final season of Bravo in 2021, also contributed to the project, appearing in three episodes.
Meanwhile, Morgan has been known to assign her staff various peculiar tasks. These range from filling a bathtub with water while keeping her in it to attempting to clear the house of negative energy.
Her townhouse itself has become quite iconic, featuring prominently in seasons that depicted her efforts to sell her impressive five-story mansion on the Upper East Side.
According to Variety, Young is set to graduate from USC’s Writing for Screen & Television MFA program in 2025, while Handler will serve as the executive producer and may even take on a starring role.
The studio, 20th Television, describes the show as centering on “a fallen reality star and her live-in group of misfits as they attempt to restore her reputation and reignite her career.”
Along the way, when her estranged daughter unexpectedly moves into the dilapidated Manhattan townhouse, the TV star faces the one role she’s long evaded: motherhood.
