Inside the Hughes brothers' video call after their Olympic gold victory

After the U.S. men’s hockey team claimed gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics on Sunday, Luke Hughes had a quick way to celebrate with his brothers, Quinn and Jack, despite being miles apart.

As soon as Jack secured the victory for Team USA in a nail-biting 2-1 overtime win against Canada in Milan, Luke — who was watching the game from New Jersey — got a FaceTime call from his brothers in the Devils’ team lounge.

“They seemed really shocked. I was so happy for them, just telling them how much I loved them and how proud I was,” said Luke, a 22-year-old defenseman for the Devils, in a conversation on Tuesday.

Jack, a 24-year-old forward playing alongside Luke, netted the crucial goal just 1 minute and 41 seconds into overtime, breaking a 46-year gold medal drought for the U.S.

Throughout the tournament, Jack racked up four goals and three assists in six matches, while Quinn, 26, a defenseman for the Wild, contributed one goal (the decisive one against Sweden) and seven assists.

“I was jumping up and down, and everyone was celebrating,” Luke recounted, also mentioning he’s recovering from a dislocated left shoulder. “I’m just really happy and proud of them. It’s an incredible achievement, and I think we’re all still processing the win.”

The celebratory vibe really kicked off after the FaceTime with Luke.

After arriving in South Florida on Monday, the Hughes brothers and their teammates hit up a Miami nightclub, E11EVEN, before heading to Washington, D.C., to meet President Donald Trump the following day.

During a conference call after their thrilling victory, President Trump lightheartedly joked about the women’s team, also gold medalists in an overtime victory against Canada, saying, “If I don’t invite them, I’m pretty sure I’d be impeached.” This sparked some laughter in the locker room.

Quinn and Jack addressed some of the social media reactions regarding their victory on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday.

“I’m glad you mentioned the women’s team again. We’re really happy for them. There’s a lot being said on social media right now about our team and theirs,” Quinn noted.

He added that over the past few summers, they’ve trained alongside the women’s team and got to know many of the players quite well.

Although the women’s team declined the president’s invitation due to scheduling issues, he mentioned during his State of the Union address that they “will be at the White House soon.”
