Swayman’s Take on Trump’s Comments
Jeremy Swayman, the goaltender for the Boston Bruins, expressed his disappointment regarding the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team’s laughter during President Donald Trump’s remarks about needing to invite the women’s team to the State of the Union address. This came after both teams triumphed over Canada to secure gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.
In the Bruins’ locker room, a reporter inquired about the backlash following the men’s team’s phone call with Trump. He humorously suggested that failing to invite the women could lead to impeachment. Swayman responded, “We should have reacted differently,” referring to Trump’s comments.
He added, “We have immense respect for the women’s team, and sharing the gold medal with them is something we will forever treasure.”
The men’s team had attended Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday and later visited the White House, which Swayman described as “an incredible honor.” He emphasized their role in representing the country and celebrating their victories.
At the State of the Union, Trump announced that the women’s hockey team would be welcomed to the White House soon after their victory, despite their earlier decline of an invitation due to scheduling issues. However, it remains uncertain whether they accepted the rescheduled invitation.
