Manhattan Hate Crime Verdict

A man has been found guilty of committing a hate crime after attacking a TikTok influencer in Manhattan. The assailant, identified as Skiboky Stra, faces a potential sentence of up to three years in prison.

Stra, who previously campaigned for mayor of New York and claimed lineage to famed figure Marcus Garvey, was convicted of third-degree assault as a hate crime following a fast-paced trial overseen by Judge Josh Hanshaft in Manhattan Supreme Court.

The verdict came swiftly—just 30 minutes after deliberation—after a four-week trial where Stra, representing himself, delivered a disorganized defense that raised eyebrows.

In addition to the assault charge, he also faced convictions for third-degree stalking, classified as a hate crime, and aggravated harassment.

Wearing a tie adorned with his name, Stra was taken into custody by the judge, with sentencing scheduled for April 14.

The trial itself was marked by several unusual moments, including Stra taking over 60 bathroom breaks. His closing remarks included a peculiar assertion that he had never been racist or discriminated against anyone.

When asked for his final thoughts, his response was odd—he repeated “God bless America” three times.

Prosecutors detailed a pattern of assaults targeting white individuals, Jews, and women, arguing that Stra’s actions were deliberate. Assistant District Attorney Edward Smith insisted the case shouldn’t merit any leniency because of Stra’s ongoing denials throughout the trial.

The prosecution pointed out that Stra’s chosen victims were not random; he specifically targeted those who were white, light-skinned, women, and Jewish. As evidence, jurors were shown videos where he could be heard making various hate-filled speeches.

During his own testimony, Stra provided dubious excuses to contest his involvement, despite clear video evidence. He even claimed the alleged attacker couldn’t be him due to hair differences, despite being bald in court.

Stra’s defense further included bizarre claims about his dog, a cocker spaniel named Shirley Little Bat, asserting that the dog in surveillance footage wasn’t his because of color differences.

Testimony included accounts from social media influencer Halley Kate McGookin, who described being punched in the face by Stra while on her way to record a podcast in Chelsea. She voiced her shock after the assault and reflected on how she apologized to him afterwards, which is strikingly confusing.

McGookin relayed that Stra shouted profanity and claimed she was at fault during the incident, adding that she had been assaulted in the aftermath of simply walking down the street.

Additional evidence highlighted Stra’s alarming behavior, including a rant directed at a Jewish couple, where he threatened them and exhibited violent rhetoric.

Prosecutors maintained that Stra’s actions reflected a deep-seated animosity, demonstrated in videos showing his disdain for white individuals, encapsulating the troubling motives behind his actions.
