The Seahawks have yet to make a decision about visiting the White House.
Coach Mike McDonald mentioned during the NFL combine on Wednesday that any plans to head to the nation’s capital would follow communication from President Trump.
“I haven’t received an invitation yet,” McDonald stated. “We’ll look into it once we have the invitation.”
According to a report from The Seattle Times, “The organization’s initial reaction will likely be to accept the invitation.”
McDonald noted that any decision regarding the visit will be a group choice.
When asked about how these decisions are usually made, he remarked, “I think it comes down to everyone involved, just like we do with anything else.”
Visits to the White House have stirred controversy in recent years.
Last year, the Eagles accepted Trump’s invitation, but prominent players like Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith chose not to attend.
After their Super Bowl win in 2018, the Eagles skipped the visit when Trump rescinded the invitation over disagreements regarding the national anthem. Many Eagles weren’t anticipated to show up anyway if the invitation had stood.
The Seahawks had previously visited the White House after their Super Bowl victory in 2014 during Obama’s presidency.
Recently, members of the U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team attended the State of the Union address after securing a gold medal in Italy.
The five players returned home without visiting Washington, D.C., as they were preparing for the NHL season to resume.
Despite deciding not to go to the State of the Union, Trump mentioned that the women’s hockey team, which also won gold this month, would be welcomed to the Oval Office “soon.”
In early February, the Trump administration confirmed that the World Series champion Dodgers are set to visit the White House this year, although a specific date remains undecided.
