Fraudulent businesses: Vance declares the suspension of Medicaid funding to Minnesota due to suspected fraud

Medicaid Payments Suspended in Minnesota Following Fraud Claims

On Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance revealed that the federal government will temporarily halt some Medicaid payments to Minnesota after uncovering instances of fraud in the state-run program.

Vance emphasized that this action is to ensure that residents of Minnesota responsibly manage taxpayer funds. “Money shouldn’t be going to scammers,” he stated, expressing his discontent over the situation.

“Today, we’ve made the decision to temporarily suspend certain Medicaid funding to Minnesota to ensure that the state fulfills its responsibilities,” he explained.

He noted that health care providers in Minnesota continue to receive payments, but the federal government is pausing reimbursement to the state rather than to the individual providers.

Vance highlighted a specific fraud case involving a program designed for after-school services for children with autism. In these cases, it appears that several individuals created “fake businesses” to obtain Medicaid funding, even fabricating clients who weren’t genuinely autistic.

“A lot of people have profited from programs intended to support children with autism and to provide access to after-school services,” he remarked, insisting that these funds should rightfully benefit American families.

He stressed that this alleged fraud not only squanders taxpayer money but also diverts necessary services from children who genuinely require them. “In Minnesota, there are kids who really need these services, and they’re not getting them. Instead, funds are ending up in the hands of scammers in Minneapolis. This is just not right,” he asserted.

Additionally, Vance expressed his admiration for the national spirit of generosity, which he believes is reflected in programs like Medicaid and food assistance that aim to help those in need. However, he criticized states like Minnesota for allegedly exploiting this generosity. “It’s shameful, and it has gone on for too long,” he remarked. “Rather than aiding children in need, too many have taken advantage of the goodwill of the American people and prospered unfairly.”

As of now, there has been no response from Democratic Gov. Tim Walz’s office or the Minnesota Department of Human Services regarding this issue.
