Neighbors' Ring camera captures possible new evidence in Nancy Guthrie case

Investigation Update on Nancy Guthrie’s Alleged Kidnapping

TUCSON, Ariz. — A Ring camera owned by residents in the Catalina Foothills recorded twelve vehicles driving by early on the morning of Nancy Guthrie’s suspected kidnapping. The footage was captured between midnight and 6 a.m. on February 1, with notable activity around 2:30 a.m., coinciding with the last sync of the 84-year-old Guthrie’s pacemaker device with her iPhone.

Homeowners Elias and Daniel Stratigouleas informed that law enforcement had not searched their neighborhood for 25 days since Guthrie was believed to have been abducted during a home invasion. They reported the video to both the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, though it remains unclear whether the footage will help in the investigation or if any vehicles from the recordings were on Guthrie’s street.

Guthrie is the mother of Savannah Guthrie, co-host of “Today,” who has her roots in Tucson. The Stratigouleas’ home lies on a quieter road leading out of Guthrie’s neighborhood, approximately 4.5 miles from where the incident took place. This area is situated outside the two-mile radius where neighbors were asked for video footage from January 1 to February 2. According to Google Maps, their home is about a seven-minute drive from Guthrie’s residence. One video was recorded at 2:36 a.m., just after the pacemaker synced last with her phone, according to the sheriff’s timeline.

Danielle Stratigouleas remarked that while the number of cars passing that night felt normal, she and a friend thought it odd that law enforcement hadn’t visited their neighborhood.

The FBI and local sheriff’s officials received notice of the video, but again, it’s unclear whether it will aid in the ongoing investigation. A neighbor had also reported witnessing a suspicious man in the vicinity the day after Guthrie’s disappearance, near what seemed to be an abandoned vehicle. Out of concern for her children’s safety amidst the unsolved case, this neighbor requested anonymity.

She described the man as approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, Hispanic, with a close-cropped beard and wearing a silver bracelet. This individual was seen smoking near the intersection of Camino Juan Paisano and Piedra Seca, situated between Camino Real and Guthrie’s property. The suspect was associated with a dark red Honda SUV, which the neighbor noted had been moved after sitting in the area for three days.

Another neighbor, Aldin Meister, mentioned seeing an unidentified man in mid-January. She said this individual did not appear to be out for a walk, describing him as young and wearing a hat pulled down over his eyes. She observed him lingering nearby but did not see Guthrie afterward.

Local deputies have been active in searching locations in close proximity to Guthrie’s home, including a common feature known as a wash. The search areas have been substantial; however, the investigation has yet to yield any suspects or charges, despite several brief detentions and vehicle tows connected to family members of those involved.

For over three weeks, no one has been formally charged in this case, although authorities have diligently examined various routes connecting to the community where the incident occurred. Despite the lack of substantial progress, authorities continue searching for any leads or witnesses that could help uncover what happened during that troubling night.
