Shia LaBeouf’s Court Appearance Following Mardi Gras Arrest

Shia LaBeouf faced a judge in New Orleans for a status hearing on Thursday, just over a week after his Mardi Gras arrest.

During the session, Orleans Parish Criminal Court Judge Simone Levine set bail at $100,000 and mandated that LaBeouf return to drug and alcohol rehabilitation. This followed charges of two counts of assault related to an incident on February 17.

Reports indicated that LaBeouf had shouted homophobic slurs while allegedly punching multiple people near the French Quarter. It’s suggested that he may have dislocated a victim’s nose, as detailed in a police report.

Judge Levine further ordered the 39-year-old actor to undergo weekly drug testing.

After the hearing, LaBeouf managed to post bail and was seen hurriedly leaving the courthouse to avoid reporters. Eyewitnesses noted he was dressed casually in a white fleece pullover, jeans, and boots.

The incident that led to his arrest began early last week in the Faubourg Marigny area. Authorities responded to a call regarding a disturbance involving two male victims who had been assaulted on Royal Street.

Allegedly, LaBeouf became aggressive after causing a ruckus at a nearby establishment. When staff attempted to remove him, he reportedly struck one of the victims several times. Witnesses claimed that he left but then returned, escalating the situation.

Several individuals attempted to restrain him outside a local store, but it seems he resisted before ultimately submitting.

LaBeouf is said to have punched one victim again and then assaulted another, resulting in charges of simple assault. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries and arrested after being discharged.

A representative for LaBeouf has not yet responded to requests for comments.

Interestingly, the following day, LaBeouf shared a brief two-word message on social media that read, “Release me,” after earlier being spotted enjoying Mardi Gras festivities on Bourbon Street.

This isn’t LaBeouf’s first run-in with the law; he had previously faced misdemeanor charges in June 2020 related to a theft and battery incident.
