Authorities advise parents to inspect lunchboxes after a child brings a martini to school

South Fulton Police Warn Parents About Vodka in Lunchboxes

A police department in the Atlanta area has issued an unusual alert to parents after discovering that a child brought a vodka-based drink to school, cleverly hidden in a lunchbox alongside some Doritos.

The South Fulton Police Department took to Facebook with a straightforward message, urging parents to “check your lunchbox.” They humorously reminded guardians, “Before you drop your baby off at school…give that lunch box a look. Why are we getting reports of a juice box next to a Cutwater margarita?”

The department also shared an image of a lunchbox that allegedly contained both Doritos and a Cutwater Lemon Drop Martini, which they believed belonged to a child.

In their post, the police remarked, “It’s not Capri Sun. It’s not apple juice. This is more like a ‘Parents Had a Long Night’ starter kit.” They recounted a scenario where a student, nicknamed Johnny, offered “fruit snacks” to peers, while in reality, he had a lemon drop martini stashed in his zipper pocket.

This particular martini is a ready-to-drink cocktail with 11% alcohol by volume, made from vodka and other ingredients, and comes in a can reminiscent of soda packaging.

Understanding that mornings can be hectic, the police made a serious appeal to parents to be vigilant, stating, “Your child shouldn’t be the only one in the cafeteria with a drink that requires ID.” They added a note of caution about the implications of packing such beverages, highlighting that if it states 12% alcohol by volume, it’s definitely not a simple sandwich.

To assist, officials included a simple checklist for parents that reminded them to confirm their child’s lunch items, including the often-overlooked category of beverages.

The department also requested that parents check lunchboxes before school resource officers take inventory during recess. At this point, it’s unclear whether any disciplinary actions were taken against the child or their parents regarding the situation.

Fulton County Schools have yet to respond to inquiries about the incident.

For context, South Fulton, Georgia is growing rapidly and is situated just about 20 minutes away from both Atlanta and its international airport.
