Olympic champions from the Rangers receive a heartfelt homecoming as 'U-S-A' cheers echo in the Garden

Celebration for JT Miller and Vincent Trocheck

Recently, JT Miller and Vincent Trocheck found themselves center stage as the spotlight shone on their Olympic achievements.

The atmosphere was electric when the crowd at Madison Square Garden erupted in chants of “US-A.” This occurred after Team USA clinched the gold medal, honoring Miller, Trocheck, head coach Mike Sullivan, assistant coach David Quinn, and president Chris Drury with a standing ovation. Interestingly, Drury faced a loud chorus of boos during the match, hinting at the frustration from fans about the Rangers’ troubled season.

As the stars twinkled on the ice, Trocheck raised his arms in response to the enthusiastic “USA” chants resonating throughout the arena.

This brief but heartfelt ceremony took place before the game and lasted roughly four minutes. Sullivan’s speech, made in the U.S. locker room before the match, was broadcast on the arena’s scoreboard and included highlights from the gold medal game.

Both players were visibly emotional as they were presented with their gold medals.

Trocheck and Miller played pivotal roles in a penalty-kill unit that impressively went 18-for-18 throughout the tournament. This included a vital stretch of 5-for-3 against Canada, which could have shifted the gold medal match if the Canadians had managed to score.

Throughout the tournament, Trocheck recorded one of the highest faceoff percentages, ranking third overall.

“Honestly, I’m very proud,” Trocheck expressed following the victory. “Yeah, we heard all the chatter about how we shouldn’t be here. I’m not naïve. I understand there are, well, more skilled players out there who could easily make it to the NHL. But we made it, and we had a specific role to play, which was to excel in penalty kills and faceoffs, and, you know, bring good character to the team.”

Trocheck continued, reflecting on their performance, “We took that role and ran with it.”

And on that memorable Thursday, the celebrations for Team USA, which spanned from Milan to Miami and even reached the White House—though not without some political discourse—finally found their way back to the Garden.
