Luke Grimes Shares Why He Moved to Montana
Luke Grimes has opened up about his decision to leave Hollywood behind in favor of a more peaceful life in Montana. At the premiere of “The Marshalls” on Tuesday, he mentioned to Fox News Digital that making the move full-time felt quite straightforward for him.
“I spend three to four months a year there, and after I finish filming, I just come back here. Honestly, it felt more like leaving home than returning,” Grimes explained.
It seems his affection for Montana grew over time. He also talked about how he found love with his wife, Brazilian model Bianca Rodriguez, and how their life together there has shaped their experiences. “It was a gradual change over several years. My wife and I just really fell in love with this place and made the choice to stay,” he said.
“I go there three or four months out of the year, and whenever I’m done filming, I come back here. It was more like leaving than coming home.”
In “The Marshalls,” Grimes will reprise his role as Casey Dutton. The setting revolves around Yellowstone Ranch, where his character becomes part of an elite unit of U.S. Marshals. He combines his cowboy skills with those from his Navy SEAL past to maintain order in Montana. The show explores themes of family, duty, and the emotional toll that comes with their responsibilities.
Co-star Gil Birmingham, who also returns as Chief Thomas Rainwater, discussed how “Marshalls” differs from “Yellowstone.” He pointed out that while the foundation remains the same geographically, the narrative blends two genres. “We have a tactical marshal’s team, and Casey brings all his ranching knowledge into the fold,” Birmingham stated.
Grimes shared that wearing a U.S. marshal’s badge serves as a turning point for his character, moving away from the ‘dirty’ tactics he previously displayed in “Yellowstone.” He noted, “Throughout the first season, there was a focus on making him more measured. It’s interesting to see him learn how to respect the badge and avoid underhanded methods.”
At the premiere, Grimes, alongside showrunner Spencer Hudnut, expressed a desire for “Yellowstone” fans to find familiar elements in the new series while still venturing into fresh territory. “We aimed for it to feel organic and wanted enough ‘Yellowstone’ essence so that fans of the original could connect, yet allow it to carve its own identity,” he remarked.
The new series, “The Marshalls,” featuring Luke Grimes as Casey Dutton, is set to debut on Sunday, March 1, 2026, airing from 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT on CBS.
