Jim Carrey Accepts Honorary Award at the Cesar Awards
Jim Carrey took to the stage at the Cesar Awards, blending gratitude with a dash of romance as he accepted an honorary award. His heartfelt speech, notably delivered in French, charmed the audience.
The 64-year-old actor celebrated the occasion in Paris on February 26, joined by his 38-year-old daughter Jane, his teenage son Jackson, and a woman named Mina, whom he referred to as his “mate.” He mentioned them by name during his speech.
“Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane, and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and always. Thank you to my wonderful companion, Mina,” he expressed in French, as his family received warm applause. “I love you, Mina. And lastly, I’d like to thank my father, Percy Joseph Carey, the funniest man I’ve ever known, who taught me about love, generosity, and laughter.”
Details about Carrey’s relationship with Mina are not widely known. Previously, she was recognized as Minji, an actress and artist based in Los Angeles, and was noted for her appearance at a charity comedy event hosted by Judd Apatow in 2022.
Carrey shares a daughter, Jane, with his ex-wife Melissa Womer, with whom he was married from 1987 to 1995. He also engaged with Lauren Holly from 1996 to 1997.
The French Academy had announced Carrey as the honorary recipient for 2025 last fall, highlighting his “extraordinary versatility” across film and television. True to his comedic roots, he wrapped up his acceptance speech with a self-deprecating remark about his French skills.
“Almost mediocre, right? Please forgive me. I don’t speak French, but I’m just learning. My tongue is tired,” he joked, according to translations.
In recent years, Carrey has mostly distanced himself from Hollywood, although audiences last saw him playing the scene-stealing Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. While promoting the sequel in 2022, he hinted at the possibility of retirement from acting, saying, “I really like my quiet life, I really enjoy painting, and I love my spiritual life. You might not hear any other celebrity say this, but I feel like I’ve had enough. I’ve done enough. Enough is enough.”
