Disturbing Encounter at Church Youth Camp

The host of a podcast on spiritual warfare recently shared a troubling email he received from a listener about a chilling experience. In the email, an adult man reflects on an unsettling incident from his youth at a church camp.

On his first night, he was persuaded by two campmates to participate in a game called “Bloody Mary.” This urban legend involves chanting “Bloody Mary” three times in a dark bathroom in hopes of summoning a ghostly figure. The memory of what he saw in the mirror still lingers with him.

“After the second chant, I just panicked and stepped away,” he wrote. But one of his peers, named “Tim,” wouldn’t let him go. As Tim pulled him back, the man caught sight of a different mirror outside the bathroom. There, three others were engrossed in their own game.

Suddenly, Tim shouted in terror, describing a shadowy figure resembling a man moving towards them. The positioning of the mirror meant they could only see the upper bodies of everyone in the room. Yet, Tim insisted that he saw a figure, growing in size, creeping closer, as if it were emerging from the depths of the mirror.

Things escalated quickly when the youth pastor, making his rounds that night, knocked to check in on the boys. The campers relayed their frightening tale to him, receiving a stern warning in return: “Urban legends like this can be dangerous… often demons use them as invitations.”

Rick, the podcast host, echoed the youth pastor’s warning, emphasizing that what seems harmless—like a game—can actually have darker undertones. He compares turning a blind eye to such activities to a parent carelessly allowing their child to play by a busy street or handle sharp objects.

He challenges listeners to consider the spiritual implications of their actions: “If we believe in what the Bible describes about the spiritual realm, the existence of evil, and powerful entities like Satan, why act as though it’s safe to indulge in these seemingly innocent traditions?”

To delve deeper into Rick’s insights and the concerning trends affecting today’s youth, you can listen to the full episode.
