TUCSON, Ariz. – Ongoing Investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s Disappearance

A crime expert stated that the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s case remains active. He emphasized the necessity for highly skilled forensic scientists to thoroughly examine her home.

Forensic scientist Peter Ballentine shared these insights during a discussion on the “Crime and Justice” podcast. Guthrie has been missing for over three weeks now, having been forcibly taken from her Tucson, Arizona home early on February 1st. Authorities are still in search of her.

According to previous reports, two federal officials indicated that some DNA samples collected from Guthrie’s house were linked to individuals who had legitimate reasons to enter. Additionally, DNA from a suspicious glove found two miles from her home did not match any samples within the forensic databases.

Ballentine, who is the chair of forensic medicine at the Henry C. Lee School of Criminal Justice, suggested on the podcast that a new investigative perspective might be required.

“I would advise bringing in top forensic experts,” Ballentine stated. “Search the home for trace evidence that should still be present.”

Experts believe that whoever abducted Nancy Guthrie likely left behind some form of evidence.

“If people entered that home to take her, there should be some sort of proof. We need to find that evidence,” Ballentine remarked.

He also cautioned that the crucial evidence necessary for solving the case might not be readily apparent.

“It’s not always about clear DNA profiles or obvious fingerprints. Sometimes, it’s those less commonly considered pieces of evidence, like hair or fibers, that can lead to breakthroughs. But if we don’t start collecting everything we can, we might stall this case,” he added.

On a related note, investigators recently acquired new leads when it was revealed that a resident in the nearby Catalina Foothills had surveillance footage capturing numerous vehicles passing by during the time Nancy Guthrie was allegedly abducted. This activity coincided with the last syncing of her pacemaker device with a mobile phone.

In an Instagram post, Savannah Guthrie urged the public to submit tips, asking followers to “be the one to bring her home.” She also shared a segment from her “Today” show outlining how to provide anonymous tips, which may receive cash rewards.

Anyone with information about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance is encouraged to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI.
