Carrie Underwood Embraces Her “Grandma Hobbies”

Carrie Underwood, the celebrated country star and mother of two, has revealed that she has what she affectionately calls “grandma hobbies.” In her downtime, she enjoys activities that might not be too surprising for someone with such a busy career—like crafting and baking.

“I love to crochet and do some bird watching,” she shared. “I make my own sourdough, brew kombucha, grow chili peppers, and I’m really into making my own fermented hot sauce.” It seems she values these quiet moments, especially when contrasted with the chaotic nature of the entertainment industry. “Everything feels fragmented in the entertainment world; the reality is more about cleaning, cooking, and gardening—those are the things I love,” she added.

Last year, Underwood documented her journey into crocheting on her Instagram. She showcased her progress, referring to a crocheted square adorned with floral designs. A few hours later, she shared her excitement about making four squares instead of one, enthusiastically noting, “It’s getting better and better!!!” under her post.

She even incorporated her crocheting into her performances on “American Idol,” wearing her handmade creations on stage.

Recently, she uploaded a photo of herself crocheting while getting ready for “American Idol,” pairing her love for crafting with her professional life seamlessly. “Ready for tonight’s #IDOL!” she exclaimed, highlighting her dual passion for performing and creating.

Underwood’s creativity extends beyond just crocheting; she also enjoys baking. On one occasion, she proudly posted a picture of the bread she baked using grains she milled herself, expressing her newfound love for the process of making bread from scratch. “It tasted so good,” she remarked, clearly excited about adding this skill to her repertoire.

In June, she shared an Instagram story showcasing her canning skills, explaining how she transformed excess ingredients into preserved goods. She humorously mentioned her efforts with plums and their uncertain fate, saying, “I’m not sure if I made jam or something else, but I feel accomplished!”

Living on a farm adds another dimension to her life, where she grows fruits and vegetables and relishes the full farming experience. Underwood, who won “American Idol” back in 2005, now serves as a judge on the show, showcasing how far she’s come in her career.

She’s married to former hockey player Mike Fisher, and they share two sons—10-year-old Isaiah and 7-year-old Jacob—adding another layer of joy and responsibility to her life.

In her embracing of these hobbies, Carrie Underwood reflects a relatable and more grounded side, one that many can admire and perhaps see bits of themselves in.
