Cain Velasquez Discusses His Release from Prison
Cain Velasquez expressed his relief in a recent video, stating how excited he is to be out of prison. It’s been four weeks since his release, and he took to Instagram to thank his supporters for standing by him during tough times.
In his first public message after being freed, Velasquez shared his thoughts on adjusting to life outside. “I will keep working to repay your support,” he mentioned, noting the importance of taking things slowly as he reenters society. “I didn’t want to rush back into the old rhythm of life, so I focused on adapting to this new pace.”
He went on to say, “It’s just really nice to be out there again.” Velasquez, who was convicted in March 2025 for shooting Harry Gularte—accused of abusing his young son—reflected on his time in prison and how he’s settling back in with family.
The incident occurred in February 2022 when Velasquez chased Gularte’s car, leading to a shooting that injured Gularte’s stepfather. Accepting a plea deal, he apologized for his actions and received a five-year sentence. It’s said he spent over 1,000 days in custody, which included time on house arrest, before being released on parole last month.
Now, as he embraces normalcy, Velasquez shared, “I’m just at home with my family now, focusing on our kids.” Gularte, on the other hand, is still facing legal issues related to the allegations against him. While Velasquez is grateful for his freedom, the situation remains complex and ongoing.
