Mass Shooting at Old Dominion University Sparks Controversy
A shooting incident occurred at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, prompting a strong reaction from local officials. Ramin Fatehi, the Commonwealth’s Attorney known for his support of George Soros, directed criticism towards pro-gun lawmakers and judges, suggesting they share some responsibility for the tragedy.
During a press conference, Fatehi was asked to clarify his previous comments. He asserted, “I absolutely stand by what I said, and it’s the truth no matter how much gun control groups want to deny it,” despite the shooter’s known history of supporting Islamic terrorism.
The shooter, identified as a former National Guard soldier and naturalized citizen from Sierra Leone, had a criminal record linked to terrorism. He was convicted in 2017 for attempting to aid ISIS, but had been released by the Federal Bureau of Prisons under the current administration.
Fatehi emphasized that regardless of an attacker’s beliefs or motivations, the presence of a firearm makes them increasingly dangerous. Interestingly, he has received significant funding from Soros-backed organizations, which have previously contributed substantial amounts to left-wing political causes.
In a span of ten years, Soros reportedly invested $40 million into supporting progressive prosecutors through a political action committee, while another PAC, launched in 2019, received nearly $30 million shortly after its inception.
Comments from Fatehi during the press conference sparked backlash, particularly among conservatives who highlighted the shooter’s past. Critics voiced their concerns, arguing that the DA’s comments were misguided. For instance, one commentator suggested that under Fatehi’s administration, the focus may be on punishing those who defend against attackers.
Fatehi’s statements included a call for a change in how society approaches the gun culture, stating, “In our country, people care more about guns than 6-year-olds…this is a national disease.” He stressed that law enforcement and universities are doing their part, but added that incidents like this are likely to continue unless more sensible gun control measures are enacted.
Emerging details surrounding the shooting indicated that the suspect, Mohamed Jallow, specifically targeted ROTC members. Eyewitness reports suggest that a bystander intervened and fatally stabbed Jallow as police arrived.
While ODU Police Chief Garrett Shelton confirmed that one victim was killed alongside the shooter, two others sustained injuries. The FBI is treating the investigation as a possible act of terrorism.
