Security guard killed in Dallas police standoff involving SWAT team

A security guard who allegedly worked for Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett was shot and killed during a standoff with SWAT in Dallas on Wednesday. Reports indicated he was wanted for impersonating a police officer.

The individual, whose identity hasn’t been disclosed by authorities, barricaded himself in a vehicle within a children’s hospital garage around 11 p.m. This followed a chase by the Dallas Police Department’s fugitive unit as part of an ongoing investigation. Police later used tear gas to coax him out of the car, but he emerged wielding a firearm, then pointed it at the officers and opened fire, according to Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeau.

The suspect was under investigation for claiming to be a law enforcement officer while recruiting for a security firm that hired off-duty police.

“They encountered a target and ended up with a framed suspect,” Chief Comeau remarked regarding the incident at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

He went on to explain the sequence of events, stating that the suspect, once outside, brandished a gun and aimed it at the officers. They responded with gunfire, resulting in his death at the scene. Interestingly, while he displayed a firearm, he reportedly did not discharge it, and fortunately, no officers were injured during the altercation.

It was revealed that this suspect was closely tied to Crockett’s security protocols, both in Texas and Washington, D.C. He was known to use several aliases, including “Mike King,” and reportedly paid close attention to her safety during her campaign for a Senate seat, which she ultimately lost.

Additionally, law enforcement clarified that he had been supervising security personnel across various hotels in downtown Dallas. Curiously, he was reportedly driving a vehicle designed to mimic law enforcement, equipped with license plates that had been stolen from a military recruitment center’s parking lot.

Attempts to gather comments from the Dallas Police Department and Crockett’s office were unsuccessful as no responses were immediate available.
