Trump Announces International Support for Warships in Strait of Hormuz
On Saturday, President Trump stated that several nations are ready to assist the United States by sending warships to the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social, he mentioned, “Many countries, particularly those affected by Iran’s attempts to obstruct the Strait of Hormuz, will collaborate with us to ensure the waterway remains open and secure.”
He further claimed, “We’ve already eliminated 100 percent of Iran’s military capabilities, yet even in defeat, they can still deploy a drone, drop a mine, or launch a short-range missile into this critical area.”
Additionally, Trump urged countries like China and France to join in sending vessels to the strait, aiming to maintain its functionality.
“Countries that have been impacted by this artificial constraint—like China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the UK—should send ships to help ensure the Strait of Hormuz is no longer endangered by a completely disarmed state. Meanwhile, the U.S. will persist with operations from the coastline, targeting Iranian boats and ships,” he added.
This development follows an increase in tensions after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) took responsibility for attacks on civilian ships in the region last Wednesday.
IRGC Naval Commander Alireza Tansiri asserted that any ship wishing to navigate the Strait of Hormuz must first obtain permission from Tehran.
He raised a pointed question regarding the safety of vessels attempting to cross, saying, “Was passage guaranteed? Crews from the *expres rome* and *mayuree naree*, who were captured after disregarding warnings, should consider this.” He noted that all ships must have proper permits to transit through Iranian-controlled waters.
The Strait of Hormuz plays a pivotal role in global oil transportation, with around 20 million barrels shipped daily in 2025 alone, according to the International Energy Agency. Approximately 25% of the world’s oil trade flows through this narrow channel.
Trump concluded his communication with a definitive statement: “One way or another, we will soon ensure that the Strait of Hormuz is open, safe, and free!”
