Sharon Osbourne Discusses Political Speeches at Award Shows

Sharon Osbourne has recently shared her thoughts on artists making politically charged speeches during award shows. In a conversation on a podcast with her son, Jack Osbourne, she remarked, “I understand.” She acknowledged that “everyone needs their platform,” but also feels that “people need a break from everything happening in the world.”

“Everyone needs that escape,” she added. “I get that people can feel very passionately about political issues.” Sharon pointed out that when celebrities know millions of viewers are watching, they might feel compelled to express their emotions on significant matters.

However, she also noted that those artists need to remember that everyday viewers, “Joe Public,” often require a moment of respite. She emphasized that during acceptance speeches, while the artists have a “huge platform,” it isn’t solely about them, especially when the audience might already be dealing with their own fears.

Sharon suggested that these artists could perhaps reserve their messages for more personal platforms instead.

In related news, her daughter, Kelly Osbourne, stirred concern regarding her health after her appearance at the BRIT Awards in February. Kelly recently took to Instagram to denounce body shamers, expressing her frustration over their comments.

“There’s a special kind of cruelty in hurting someone who is clearly going through something,” she wrote, reflecting on her own challenges and the lack of compassion from some people during her difficult times.

This isn’t the first time Kelly has faced criticism regarding her weight. She previously commented on the hurtfulness of some remarks, recalling a particularly harsh comment that suggested she looked like a corpse.

Her father, Ozzy Osbourne, passed away in July 2025, shortly after his last concert. Kelly has often spoken about how the public’s focus on her weight overshadowed other issues she faced in her life.

According to her, this environment has fostered a “world of fatphobia.” Kelly discussed at a wellness summit how growing up in the spotlight has shaped her experiences.

She reflected on the irony of how people often expressed affection by suggesting she should lose weight, which seemed to overshadow any personal struggles she was going through.
