Tracy McGrady Critiques Orlando Magic’s Roster After Playoff Exit
Basketball Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady, who played four seasons with the Orlando Magic, expressed his disappointment regarding the team’s early playoff exit in the 2025-26 season. The Magic were eliminated in the first round after a 3-1 series loss to the Detroit Pistons. As part of this shake-up, head coach Jamal Mosley is set to be let go on Monday, a move that hasn’t thrilled McGrady, who has openly criticized the team’s roster.
During a playoff broadcast on NBC, McGrady stated, “Given what they have on the roster right now, what they have on the bench, they have to go. Sorry, they’re not good enough.” He emphasized the urgency for improvement, pointing out competition from teams like New York and Boston, mentioning, “We need to improve this roster if we want to be a team that can compete in the East.”
Despite being in a favorable position earlier in the series, the Magic squandered a strong lead, notably blowing a 24-point advantage at home. In a critical Game 6, they struggled, missing 23 consecutive shots.
The team has been working on building a core around players like Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs, and Desmond Bane, all of whom are under contract for the near future. It seems the organization believes a new coaching approach may be beneficial for their development.
While under Mosley’s leadership, Orlando has made strides, they still have not managed to progress beyond the first round of playoffs, leaving many wondering about the team’s future direction.
