Heightened Security for 98th Academy Awards
The upcoming 98th Academy Awards, scheduled for Sunday night, will be marked as “the most protected event in Oscar history.” Reportedly, over 1,000 law enforcement officers are set to ensure the safety of celebrities attending the celebration at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
An official from the Los Angeles Police Department remarked to ABC News that, “Security at the Oscars has become incredibly tight in recent years, and this year it will be even tighter between private security and LAPD resources.”
In their statement, the LAPD emphasized that this year’s security measures would be “extensive and coordinated.” They noted, “Our preparations include a multi-layered security perimeter, a traffic management plan, and a high-visibility police presence throughout the Hollywood District.”
Hollywood Reporter pointed out the “long barricades and metal fences that line Hollywood Boulevard as a traffic funnel toward the Dolby Theater,” coupled with the visible police presence at every corner.
Additionally, more than 1,000 law enforcement personnel will be deployed, featuring a secondary layer of security that involves a mile of barricades and SWAT teams positioned in nearby buildings.
According to The Sun, “Officials responsible for protecting the Oscars have introduced the most stringent level of security ever.” LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell mentioned, “We are using surveillance rings to harden our targets in Los Angeles.”
