Judge Praises World Baseball Classic Atmosphere After USA’s Narrow Win
Aaron Judge expressed his admiration for the vibrant environment of the World Baseball Classic following Team USA’s tight 2-1 victory over the Dominican Republic at Lawn Depot Park in Miami on Sunday.
Judge showcased impressive defense by throwing out Fernando Tatis Jr., who attempted to advance to third base. Interestingly, the New York Yankees player might have hit a home run or even a double against center fielder Julio Rodriguez if he’d been at bat.
After the game, Judge shared his thoughts with reporters, claiming the atmosphere surpassed even that of the World Series. “It was a great game, bigger than the World Series,” he said. “The passion the fans have for representing their country and their favorite players is unmatched.” He added, “Standing there and hearing everyone’s names announced gives me chills. It felt like an all-star team.”
In front of over 36,000 fans at the Miami Marlins stadium, the crowd erupted when Junior Caminero connected for a home run off Paul Skeens. The excitement didn’t stop there; Gunnar Henderson tied the game and Roman Anthony later drove in the go-ahead run, prompting cheers from the audience.
Reflecting on the previous 2023 World Baseball Classic Finals, Anthony recalled buying a ticket to see the US game against Japan, which they lost. He expressed his dreams of representing the country again, stating, “Coming here to the WBC means I’m dreaming of representing this country and being here again next time.”
As for Team USA, they now await the outcome of the Venezuela vs. Italy matchup to determine their opponent in the final.
