Search for Missing Retired Air Force General Continues

Authorities have announced new developments in the search for retired Air Force Maj. Gen. William “Neil” McCasland, who has been missing for three weeks. On Monday, they revealed that hiking boots, presumably belonging to him, were discovered at his vacation home.

Investigators are still trying to determine if these boots are linked to McCasland’s disappearance. In a news conference, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office stated that there have been no confirmed sightings of the 68-year-old aerospace engineer, and a Silver Alert remains in place.

According to reports, McCasland was last seen leaving his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, around 11 a.m. on February 27. Disturbingly, he left his cell phone, glasses, and other personal items behind, including a wallet and a gun holster. Authorities have also noted a missing red backpack.

Early that morning, between 9 and 10 a.m., he was seen conversing with a repairman, who later described him as being “mentally in a fog.” However, the investigators remarked that he showed no signs of disorientation, instead describing him as “highly intelligent and extremely capable.”

McCasland disappeared during a period when his wife was away at an appointment. Search teams have also found a U.S. Air Force sweatshirt about a mile from his home, but it’s unclear if it belonged to him.

He is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, with white hair and blue eyes, last seen wearing a light green outdoor shirt with two chest pockets. Known as an outdoor enthusiast, he often hikes and bikes in the Albuquerque area, particularly around the Sandia Foothills, where search efforts are concentrated.

Authorities have been flooded with tips and are asking locals to check any home security footage from February 27-28, which could provide crucial information.

As of March 3, the FBI has joined the investigation. So far, there has been no direct evidence of foul play, but officials remain cautious and have not ruled out any possibilities.

McCasland’s wife, Susan McCasland Wilkerson, has denied speculation linking his disappearance to his military background. In a social media post, she clarified that while he had access to top-secret information during his service, he retired almost 13 years ago and has only held general clearances since.

If anyone has information about McCasland’s whereabouts, authorities urge them to text BCSO to 847411 or contact the Sheriff’s Missing Persons Unit at 505-468-7070.
