Illegal Immigrant Arrested on Child Rape Charges
An undocumented migrant from El Salvador, wanted on child rape allegations, was taken into custody last week. This development comes shortly after activists disrupted a federal arrest effort last month.
Footage from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) captured the chaos in Boston as anti-ICE protesters yelled insults and filmed the agents from their vehicles. They were attempting to apprehend Walter Roberto Vides Ortez, who faces serious charges back in El Salvador.
Protection Policies Allow Suspected Offender to Evade Capture
ICE agents were positioned near Vides-Ortes’ residence in East Boston, awaiting his exit. However, they soon found themselves encircled by activists who were blowing whistles and shouting, asserting that children from a nearby elementary school were being traumatized.
One protestor labeled the agents as “criminals.”
The attempted operation was thwarted, and no arrests occurred then. Subsequently, Vides Ortez was arrested on March 12th. ICE officials indicated that he had been residing near a school for an extended period, posing a potential threat to public safety.
He entered the U.S. illegally via Texas in 2016—the same year a warrant was issued for his arrest in El Salvador. Authorities believe he may have fled to the U.S. to escape prosecution.
ICE, alongside officials from the previous administration, has consistently maintained that their focus is on detaining illegal immigrants who commit crimes within the country.
Additional video evidence from protests in Minnesota shows ICE agents dealing with honking cars meant to obstruct their operations while they pursued a suspect.
A visibly frustrated agent remarked, “We came here to arrest child sex offenders, and you guys are honking your horn.” A person off-camera responded, “No, we’re the press. We’re not honking.”
The agent highlighted, “While we’re trying to arrest a child sex offender, those cars out there are honking their horns, disrupting the investigation. That’s the person you’re protecting. It’s absurd.”
